Bihar is blessed with rich cultural heritage.The treasured and exquisite sites are sufficient to explain the rich glorious past of ancient Magadha.Some of the heritage sites were discovered dates back to the time of Mahabharata.Bihar is the only State of India which has its own glorious history of 3000 to 4000 years.The ancient sites represent the culture,dwelling,living standard,power and education of the olden days.The Magadha was situated near bank of holy,pristine and sacred river Ganges.Bihar is considered to be the most, popular informative tourist destinations in the world.There were so many festivals,crafts and architecture in ancient Magadha.Magadha had a religious and cultural beliefs.The culture of Magadha was so important that belief in rebirth and karmic retribution was adopted by Jainism and Buddhism.There were so many ascetic practices based on shared assumptions present.One of the most important assumption was "that the liberation can be achieved through knowledge of the self".The belief in rebirth,knowledge of the self,meditation and karmic retribution had a very deep impact on Indian culture,religion and philosophy.
During this period the royal consecration or Rajasuya Yagna,Chariot races or Vajapeya Yagna and Asvamedha Yagna or horse sacrifice were very common.So many titles like Ekarat(only one ruler), Sarvabhauma(ruler who rules the earth),and Chakravartin(one who moves the wheel),Rathi &Maharathi were very common.
King Jarasandha was a close friend of Banasur and great devotee of Lord Shiva.Jarasandha was very good in giving charity donations to needful. Pippala cave or Jarasandha ki baithak is situated above the Vaibhava Hills and is rectangular in shape.This shape is created by natural forces.It becomes the resort of pious hermits.The capital of ancient Magadh was surrounded by five large hills namely Vaihara,Varaha, Vrishava,Rishigiri and beautiful Chaitya.These hills were covered with tall trees of cool shade.They were connected with one another,thus protecting the capital.The forests were lush green,delightful and fragrant covered with trees of Lodhras having beautiful flowers.Magadha was always filled with kine,wealth and water.The ancient Magadha was full of cheer and healthy people belonging to all four orders.The festivals were perennial and Magadh was never afflicted with drought.It will be surprise to know that a missile was hurled by Jarasandha which fell near Mathura at a distance of about ninety nine yojans. The place where missile fell is known as Gadavasan.
