Ajatshatru was the son of king Bimbisara.According to numerology, the balanced, receptive to cooperation, ideal and have feelings of loneliness is called Ajatshatru. But according to his mother Chelena,he was an enemy of own clan from even before his birth.According to Buddhist scripture,he brutally murdered his father King Bimbisara,by prisoning him, starving him and giving him lot of pains. But Jainism scripture contradicted the story. He ascended the throne of Magadh in 535 BC.He was a warrior and attacked Kaushal Pradesh and conquered it.He attacked Republic Of Lichchavi and divided it. Ajatshatru had a strong Kingdom.Sutas claim that he visited Lord Buddha after realizing his errors and sins and wanted to wash it.Lord Buddha left this world during his reign and consequently Lord Mahavira taught his teachings during his reign. Two great religions were evident during his tenure. The governance was truly democratic and the military power was very strong with advanced forms of armours. He built a large fort at his capital Patliputra. Patliputra was a famous place of trade and commerce. He believed in the expansion of his boundaries ,his empire with the help of continuous superior military intervention.King Bimbisara concentrated on East but Ajatshatru concentrated on the north and west sides. He conquered 36 Republics for the establishment of Magadh Sovereign.

The Battle against Lichchavi and 16 years long battles against Vrijjis alliances are the best example of his bravery. He invented an advanced war Chariot in which blades were extended up to 3 feet horizontally on both sides of the wheels. This Chariot was pulled by four horses and controlled by three men comprising one driver and two warriors.

He built so many stupas all around the capital and renovated the old monasteries.Women were safe and adored. The role of women in the matter of State affairs were very evident and omnipresent.During Ajatshatru reign, the Lichchavi beauty and dancer ,Amrapali was present in Vaishali. She attained the enormous power, strength and approach in the state affairs. She was so strong that even Lord Buddha accepted her invitation and had dinner with her. This is one of the example of women glorification during those days.Devadatta was the guru of Ajatshatru. He was the disciple of Devadatta and built monasteries at Gayasisa.

Confirming the visit of Ajatshatru at the place of Lord Buddha,Bharhut inscription says that he was riding on the Elephant and moving  with procession to meet Lord Buddha. It is clearly  WRITTEN in the inscription of Bharhut that "AJATSHATRU BHAGWATO BANDATE"(IN SANSKRIT). In other words it means that he vowed to Lord Buddha.
